Q: How should I change my diet?

A: That depends on how you're eating today...

Generally speaking, people simply eat too much food...and since every diet is based on calories, the formula for weight loss is relatively simple:

 # calories consumed  - # Calories Burned = Weight Gained or Weight Lost

One pound of fat contains 3,500 calories, so in order for you to lose one pound of fat over the course of one week, you will need to 'lose' 3,500 calories.  By reducing your daily caloric intake by 500 calories each day for one week, all else being consistent, you will lose 1 pound. Finding that extra 500 calories in your diet can be accomplished through a few easy, practical methods:

Write it down!
Keep a small journal with you at all times and write down everything you eat throughout the course of the day.  By doing this, you will force yourself to be more aware of what you're putting into your body and, in turn, you'll be more likely to think twice before you eat something you may later regret!

Small changes can mean big results!
Keeping a record of what you're eating will help you to identify areas where your diet may need some work....Together, we'll take a look at you few small changes can make to help you see results faster!

Substitute skim milk for half & half in your morning coffee; switch to diet soda instead of regular; try olive oil in place of butter; avoid eating late at night; and try to snack on low-calorie foods like fruits and vegetables.  Once you start watching what you're eating, you'll find there are countless ways to improve your diet!

Consistency is key!
Being in good health is all about living a healthy lifestyle.  A successful diet comes from consistency...you won't lose fat by eating right for just a few days here and there!  The idea is to change your eating habits - it may seem difficult at first, but after a few weeks, your body will feel and look better, giving you the added motivation to stick with it!  Combined with exercise, an improved diet will increase your metabolism, resulting in a lower body fat percentage and improved muscle tone, which means you'll see a diffference in both the size and shape of your body!
